The Artist
Steve has studied at some of the UK's most renowned art institutions, including Folkestone School of Art, Manchester School of Art, and the University for the Creative Arts in Canterbury.
His work is primarily abstract, deeply rooted in a sense of place that drives each image. Expressive and dynamic, his landscapes, seascapes, and aerial views predominate with strong references to their context and location.
A recurring theme in Steve's art is the narrative of dereliction and decay. Many of his pieces feature imagery such as half-submerged boats, rusting jetties, and abandoned hulks—evoking a historical nod to a bygone industrial era. Yet, these scenes retain a vibrant magic and contemporary relevance.
Steve predominantly works with acrylic, watercolor, and gouache, often incorporating ink and acrylic paint sticks into his compositions.
Steve was a former award-winning architect and past member of RIBA, ARB, and CSD, has an impressive portfolio spanning residential, commercial, and educational projects. His expertise extends to new town master planning as part of major regeneration schemes.
A significant focus of Steve's career was on designing schools and community buildings, which held a special place in his work. In his residential projects, he aimed to incorporate a unique wall, room, or special space to feature one of his paintings, blending art with architecture.
Today, Steve continues to provide architectural consultancy for select projects, bringing his wealth of experience to each endeavor.
